Michael C Smith's debut album "Hands of the Wicked" is as ambitious and encompassing as the title suggests. 

It's a 9 song study of sin, redemption, betrayal, murder, and finally love.

The sparse instrumentation, played on a combination of vintage and hand made instruments,  creates the perfect world for the dense and thematic lyrics, warbled and spat in almost non-melodies; making these songs sound as though the listener is telling them to themselves in some sort of internal monologue.
